Hotel Arena Amsterdam

Look, I'm not the hardest to please, but when it comes to hotel stays, I am. First of all: the bed has to be better than at home. And that's quite difficult, because the bed at home is wonderful. Additionally: there must be a bath. That bath also needs to be better than at home. Then you've pretty much got me. If you also have a little castle that is practically in the middle of a park with a gigantic beautiful high ceiling and light that takes your breath away, then I'm sold. If you're looking for a nice sleep-over spot, Hotel Arena is your place. The monumental building (from 1886, yay) has transformed over the years from a Roman Catholic girls’ orphanage to a four-star hotel. And, if you're not staying overnight but are in the vicinity of the 's-Gravesandestraat and are hungry? Then popping in at restaurant PARK for breakfast, lunch, or dinner is also a treat. Say hi to the sweet potato fries with truffle mayo. Yay.
