Viva la vegan!

So McDonald's is coming out with vegan chicken nuggets. Hema will now make its apple pie without animal products, Magnum is coming out with vegan ice cream and Emirates will now serve vegan meals on board. Yesterday, vegan sausage rolls were delivered to the office. You see: I have been vegan for about ten weeks now and thought it was ‘me’ that I suddenly saw it everywhere, but no, colleagues notice it too. What the V… Vegan seems to be the new buzzword. Not only in restaurants and supermarkets, but also in the fashion and beauty world. We millennials are thinking more than ever about what we put in our mouths. Not only for our own health, but also for the environment and for the animals.

The funny thing is that at first I also thought in terms of problems. No meat, fish, dairy, and CHEESE?! Can I eat nothing at all? But now I mainly think in terms of solutions. No garlic sauce with that falafel sandwich? Grab some soy yogurt, slice cucumber, press a clove of garlic, and sprinkle some dill and salt over it all: there’s your garlic sauce. I have gone out to eat several times without even realizing it was vegan. And no, I don't want to play the moral high ground, but I do think it's good that more thought is being given to it. And of course, there are brands that jump on the hype to economically benefit from it, but who cares? Vegan is becoming more normal, which means I no longer feel like a weirdo reading packaging in the supermarket. And honestly: how cool to know that no dozens of live chicks have been thrown into the shredder for your fast food meal? So, bring on those chicken nuggets, Maccie. Sweet and sour sauce on the side, everything.
