We have a baby

“Daan, I haven't had a single cancellation.” It's Saturday morning, a tight 28 hours before we AMAYZINE KiDS going to launch at the Amsterdam Pulitzer Hotel. Anyone who has ever organized an event or a party knows that you have to take the 30% rule into account. They simply don't show up. Or are sick. Or have forgotten. And if you ask famous women to come to Amsterdam with their children at the same time as the arrival of Sinterklaas, you can imagine that someone drops out.

But none of that with us. Everyone was looking forward to it. The plan was to go sailing with mothers and children on a boat from the Plastic Whale Foundation to fish plastic out of the canals, so we quickly booked another little boat. And even that was filled to the max.

Igoné de Jongh (or can I say Römer?) with son Hugo and bonus daughter Sammie (what lovely children!), Lieke van Lexmond with her Vik, Bracha van Doesburgh with her daughter with the most beautiful braids and her twins, model Marvy Rieder, Carolien Spoor, singer Do, Kristina Bozilovic, Renate Gerschtanowitz, Danie Bles, Net 5 director Jildou van der Bijl, our friends Valerie and Rosanne from OU. Boutique and two personal friends whose children I have been able to use for the first shoots, and of course our loyal team.

What are you going to do with, let's say, thirty children on a winter Sunday afternoon? Well, that turned into a drawing workshop that we were allowed to offer on behalf of Petit Bateau. The children drew fish and other water animals (did I seriously see a snake there? Yes, I saw a snake) that live in the Amsterdam canals. What I personally never would have thought of, but Vanessa van Oostijen from Studio Koosje did, was to cut out the fish, hang them on a string, and attach that to one of those cozy clothing hangers from Petit Bateau. And then you have a mobile. Well, it can be that simple. We still had to come up with something fun for the mothers. That was easy, because we found perfume house Otentic willing to showcase their beautiful scents in the Copper Room. Otentic is an eighth-generation perfumer from Grasse who makes truly unique and beautiful fragrances. And the women I know all want something new, something special, something that not everyone recognizes. And for that, you have to go to Otentic.

After that, we dove into the canals. In those little boats, from the Plastic Whale Foundation. What an initiative. From seven thousand plastic bottles, a boat is made that, of course, sails electrically. With a fleet of eleven sloop boats, they are the hope in troubled times for the Amsterdam canals. This immediately gave birth to the best idea for a children's party. We grabbed and rummaged, plastic and polystyrene, and received applause from the canal residents left and right.

Afterwards, we were treated to warm chocolate milk, glühwein, perfect bitterballen, and the children could go wild in our pop-up shop from 10DAYS BOYS & GIRLS. And of course, everyone went home with a goodie bag so big that the children could fit in it themselves. What was inside, you want to know? Well, a bottle of Moet et Chandon for the parents and the amazing new cookbook Sobremesa by Sergio Herman, the JBL and JR Pop, a portable and waterproof speaker for kids that also has a wonderfully cozy built-in light show, further a sailor cap from Catwalk Junkie, Rituals Holy Moly shower gel, Tony Chocolonely Sint chocolate, an Otentic perfume and a body lotion, an iconic rain jacket from Petit Bateau, a Dopper bottle, and the latest book from Carry Slee Juf Braaksel and the mastermind and last but certainly not least the hand cream from the Japanese brand KORE beauty.
