Men lie three times as often as women
When it comes to lying, you can always deny it, but honestly? We all do it.
And often too.
That little black dress? Oh, was on sale. Late to work? Yes, sorry, traffic. Not in the mood for that dinner with friends? Joe, the kid is sick unfortunately. Not really.
Men do lie a bit more often than women, it turns out. In fact: men lie three times as often as women. The average man lies about three times a day. Women lie ‘only’ once a day. And what does that man often skirt around? About something they did but actually didn't do. Did you exercise at work? Yes, honey. Did you water those plants? Yes, honey. Have you booked that hotel for our vacation yet? Of course. Men can really do it. About 14 percent of men lie more than five times a day.
Women mainly lie to family, friends, and colleagues. Our colleagues are often the ones on the receiving end. About 31 percent of respondents often lie at work, 27 percent lie to their partner or family, and 22 percent lie to friends. We lie about different things than men: they lie about their emotions and feelings. When asked if everything is okay, they often respond with ‘yes, everything is fine!’ And that's actually not true. They also don't want to hurt others. So when your colleague says: ‘Nice black dress, is it new?’, you often don't really know if that's sincere. Because women want to spare others and prefer to fib a little about dresses and clothing rather than honestly say what they think of an outfit.
Oh well, we shouldn't complain about it so much. Often a little white lie doesn't do much harm. Usually, it's not something big or shocking, but just a detail that we tell a little differently to come across better ourselves. It's actually out of insecurity that we spread lies. And most of the time it's very innocent.
Okay, I'll water those plants myself from now on. And my dresses always come from the sale, you understand.
