What the heck happened yesterday at 112?

Plop. Push notification. Emergency message. The emergency number is not reachable. Okay. Half an hour later. Another message. And again. Emergency message. Error. Exclamation marks. Various numbers you can reach in case of emergency. The most important number that can be called if you are in trouble has been unreachable for several hours. I just heard a colleague say that she was cycling past a fire station and saw a few firefighters playing badminton. If you weren't panicking yet, you would almost start to. I receive a new message. ‘In case of an emergency, go to the nearest fire station or police station.’ ‘The’ nearest station? Police station? Dear people at 112, I understand it's a crisis but which intern is sending exactly these messages to all of the Netherlands? And in case of emergency to the nearest fire station ‘to pick them up?!’ HAHA. Can you imagine, your house is on fire and you tell the neighbors: ’Hey guys, I'll be right back, I'm just going to get the fire department, bye!’ Meanwhile, calm has returned and it turns out to have been a case of human error upon error upon error, but I still have to say it: 112, what a mess last night. A rare fuck up, this. But hey, I still have to meet the first person who never makes a mistake…
