Yeah, we all think it: who the beep is Duncan?

Still funny: one moment nobody knows you, the next moment you are the most googled name in the Netherlands in 24 hours. I can imagine that. Because I had to do it too. Duncan Laurence. Who is that guy anyway?

It actually doesn't matter who participates in the Songfestival, it's never good, we always have something to complain about. Maybe also because it's a very select music club that decides who will represent the Netherlands. Why doesn't the public have a say in that, like in the past? Now you get this fuss. Now Twitter is going wild about a 24-year-old guy who graduated from the Rock Academy in Tilburg last year.

The first jokes are already being made: Duncan Laurence sounds like the pseudonym of Dotan, and yes, I've already caught myself comparing it to Dunkin’ Donuts, silly silly.

Just a small side note: you might know him from The Voice. 2014 was just the year I didn't watch, but I just looked up his audition and I have to say: I’m impressed. This sounds so international that I suddenly understand why a relatively unknown person is being sent into the lion's den. Duncan is an artistic guy and can sing incredibly high and will really show that if he’s smart.

Eric van Stade, general director of AVROTROS and member of the selection committee, claims he was blown away by the song that Laurence sang for them. ‘It’s so powerful that we unanimously decided that Duncan is our man.’ Ilse DeLange is also very enthusiastic. ‘Duncan is very special. It’s authentic. It touches everything, I think. Furthermore, he also has the personality that belongs to such a big adventure. His priorities are always with the music.’

How the song sounds with which Laurence is going to crush the world (yes, hello everything or nothing of course), will be announced on March 7. I find this guy a breath of fresh air, anyway. Or should I remind you of Sieneke? Exactly.
