Yes, a new Orphan Black series is coming

When I was still a Netflix newbie, I didn't really know which movies and series were truly worth it. Don't be shocked, don't get angry, don't attack me: I never liked the ‘standard’ recommendations. In fact, for example, I have Game of Thrones never seen. I dare to say this only on the internet, because if I say this in real life, a legion of GoT fans will immediately storm me with the question of how this is even possible. And well, even a Michiel Huisman couldn't convince me to follow it. One more confession then: I also Breaking Bad haven't seen. Terrible, I know. I should be ashamed. But that one is still really on my watch list. So many series, so little time. Excuses, I know.
At first, I was a bit skeptical about Orphan Black. Everyone was so enthusiastic about it that the expectations were very high. And when you try to explain the plot to people around you, it usually doesn't go smoothly. ‘Yeah, well, look, she finds out that she's a clone, and there are, like, more and more clones, and yes, it's actually played by one person, but it's really very fun, you know.’ I can tell you: it doesn't work. I eventually just gave it a chance, and if you've done that too, you know: this series is fantastic. And that's mainly thanks to actress Tatiana Maslany, who takes on countless characters. And I believe each one of them. That Emmy Award she won for it is completely deserved, if you ask me.
But yes, all good things come to an end... And so does Orphan Black. After five seasons, the fun was over (don't worry, I won't spoil the ending for late viewers). That was a shame, of course, but I think Orphan Black is also a good example of stopping at your peak. There is ultimately a certain maximum to the number of clones you can still introduce, it seems to me.
Anyway, now for the very good news. There is a currently untitled new series coming, set in the Orphan Black universe. Yes, that means it might not be the end of all clones. Unfortunately, we have to do without Sarah, Cosima, Helena, Rachel, Beth, and more... In other words: without Tatiana Maslany. It will be a completely new story, so don't expect any familiar faces. It's not a spin-off, but I actually expect some references to Orphan Black here and there. It can't be helped, right?
Our patience will be tested for a while; at the moment, hard work is being done on the story. Fortunately, we don't have much to complain about in terms of binging Netflix series at the moment, so we should be able to manage the wait. I'll finish with a fun fact: Tatiana Maslany played no less than FOURTEEN different characters in Orphan Black (admittedly, one of them was only through voice-over). If you ask me, she should have won an Emmy for each character. One more fun fact: in Orphan Black, you're also good in terms of Michiel Huisman, as he plays a number of episodes as Sarah's ex. In fact, in the series, they have a child together.
