Yes, there is a new series coming to Netflix again

As if Netflix knew it. It knew we would have such a terrible summer. At the time of writing, I'm looking outside again and not much has changed. Cloudy, people in long pants and jackets. Hello July 2019. Well, I already know what tonight will be: Netflix with wine, cheese, and snacks. I'm really looking forward to that. So yes, as if Netflix knew that we still have many of these kinds of evenings to schedule (because the chance of rain is 90%), they have announced a new series again.
And that series is called Unbelievable. I think it will fall a bit into the category When They See Us so indeed grab those tissues. Unbelievable is also based on true stories, from The Marshall Project and the story ‘An Unbelievable Story of Rape’, which has won a Pulitzer Prize. You can read it in the title and indeed: Unbelievable is about sexual violence. Looking at When They See Us and how Netflix handled it there, I guess this will also be an intense series. But also one that is very important to be made.
Unbelievable revolves around young Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever) who reports to the police after being assaulted by a burglar. However, the police doubts her story and does not believe her. To make matters worse, her surroundings seem to side with the police rather than with Marie. This is something that, of course, happens a lot in reality, causing victims of sexual violence often to hesitate to take action.
Two police detectives (thankfully) do stand by Marie's side and decide to investigate. They come across multiple rape cases and suspect that a serial rapist is active. Check the trailer below, and you'll get a pretty good idea of how the series is structured. I find it intense in one word. But in a way that When They See Us is intense; in a I-can't-turn-this-off way.
Unbelievable has 13 episodes and will be online on September 13, just like we are used to from Netflix, all at once. Hopsakee. By that time, we will already be deep into winter if this continues, so those couch evenings will definitely be welcome. Until then, absolutely read the aforementioned article. If you prefer to read it in English, search for ‘An Unbelievable Story of Rape‘, then you'll also know where the title comes from.
