5 tips against a dry vagina

It is one of the most common issues between the sheets: a dry pussy. Just over half of Dutch women sometimes suffer from vaginal dryness. That's quite a downer on your sex life: it leads to painful sex and sometimes even to damaged skin. Maybe you're thinking now: isn't that just part of it? No! LotteLust tells you what to do about dryness down under.

Drink water
You've heard it so many times, so we'll say it one more time: drink enough water, about two liters a day. You might not believe it, but it's really true. Water ensures that your body is hydrated, and that also means your vagina. Water is actually good for everything.

Arousal
When you become sexually aroused, glands in your vagina and vulva start to ‘sweat’. This ensures that penetration goes smoothly and is not painful. This doesn't happen in a split second. Women can take up to twenty minutes to become sufficiently aroused and wet. So put long foreplay on the main menu. Take your time for massaging, kissing, and all external stimulation. This gets your body more in gear and increases the chance that you will get wet.

Solo sex is also a good solution. It is good for the mucous membranes. Moreover, this way you get to know your own body better. Don't let dryness hold you back, but take a little more time. Be sure to let your bed partner(s) know this, so they can take it into account.

Be careful with lubricant
Do you tend to reach for lubricant when you’re not getting wet? Sexologists warn against this. It's important to listen to your body: not wet = no penetration yet. Lubricant can be used as an extra, but not as a replacement for long foreplay. Arousal is necessary for pain-free sex. Also read: everything you need to know about lube.

Keep moving
Not much into sports? Do this more, as it stimulates vaginal lubrication. Go enjoy an hour at the gym or do a short workout at home. You'll see that things will change down there.

Get enough sleep
Rest is very important. It has been proven that women become more easily aroused when they have had enough sleep. Every extra hour of sleep can make you more in the mood for sex and thus also wetter. Be careful: if you sleep longer than nine hours, this desire decreases again. Fun fact: sex helps you fall asleep. It reduces stress, so you sleep better too.
