8 questions we all have about face masks

may with face mask

Of course we’ve been wearing it for a while and it’s part of your standard equipment, but from today it really has to be: wearing the face mask, and that suddenly feels a bit different. So here are the questions that at least I struggled with.

1. When should it be worn, that face mask?
Actually in every indoor space where you move around. Once you’re sitting still, you can take it off if necessary. But preferably not, because putting it on and taking it off is quite wrong again.

2. Are there exceptions?
Oh, I was hoping you would ask this question. And yes, there are exceptions. In churches and mosques, it’s not required. Funny, right? General practitioners don’t necessarily have to wear one, and in hospitals, ‘the own policy on face masks is leading’. Okeeee. Sex workers also don’t have to wear a face mask. And I think the one-and-a-half-meter rule is also not enforced there. Oh, I understand why restaurant owners get so angry about this.

4. Until when are we team face mask?
At least until March 1, 2021.

5. How high is the fine?
95 euros for everyone over 16, if you are under 16, you pay 38 euros.

6. How do stores deal with face mask refusers?
Various newspapers have asked large retail chains this question and they responded that they will not confront people for not wearing a face mask and will rely on the customer’s own responsibility. They don’t want to kick anyone out of the store who isn’t wearing a face mask in any case and they will not involve enforcement officers.

7. How often should you change your face mask?
The best thing is to put it on once and keep it on for a period. So when you go shopping, keep it on, even when you walk from one store to another.

8. Can a scarf or a high collar also be used?
No. Nope. Not. Sorry.
