A hotel-clean house

I really mean it: running a household is a profession. No way I can make my bed as tight as our cleaners, and our nanny has military precision when it comes to loading the dishwasher. You sometimes, very occasionally, visit people where everything seems to be perfectly neat and tidy. And now I have found the tips on how to achieve that.
1. MAKE YOUR BED
No matter how tired you are or how rushed you feel. And if you, like me, are not so good at pulling your sheets tight: buy a heavy bedspread. It looks beautiful.
2. Let that dishwasher run
And UNLOAD IT. I know it’s a pain, but if you’re really honest, it only takes two or three minutes. You can do it calmly while your coffee brews or your water boils. An empty dishwasher = an empty countertop = an empty mind.
3. Keep that laundry basket empty
I also throw the clean laundry into a basket, which I pull out at an opportune moment. I fold towels and sheets immediately anyway. This keeps the pile somewhat in check and lowers the threshold to start doing laundry.
4. Aim for a paperless table
You receive mail. Boring letters and envelopes that you don’t want to open. Do it anyway. Work your way through the daily haul while walking from your mailbox to the living room. You throw some away, pay the bills, and place that nice card in a special spot. Done quickly and your dining table stays nice and clear. Because really: as soon as you leave a pile of mail lying around, it multiplies.
5. Clean your sink
Nothing is as annoying as a dirty sink and nothing is as nice as a clean sink. Just pop those salad leaves out of the drain, wipe it down with a cloth, and oh, you feel like such an intense Martha Stewart. It makes you want to keep everything clean and tidy.
6. Only go to bed when everything is tidied up
Okay, you might not feel like it after an evening of Netflix, popcorn, and wine, but how happy are you when you step into a cozy living room in the morning? So just fold that blanket, take your glass to the kitchen (and put it in the dishwasher, which is empty) and sweep away the popcorn remnants.
And occasionally run a little vacuum through (I’m so happy with my Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua, which vacuums and mops at the same time) and man, you’re so organized.
I just wanted to share this with you. Just for the coziness.
