Borgen on Netflix

I saw Borgen on DVD. That was back in 2014 when you still had laptops with slots for DVDs. I was so addicted to Borgen that I once spent an entire day in my hotel room in Venice watching to see how it ended for Birgitte Nyborg. And I was also once in such a hurry to get the next DVD out of its case that I broke it. Oh, what a disaster. I had to reorder the whole box and wait another day. Borgen, I think the best series I have ever seen and here's why.
1. The main character is Birgitte Nyborg who is elected as the first female prime minister. The funny thing is that Denmark actually got a female prime minister afterwards. Good for the image, such a series.
2. You can immediately see how her marriage wobbles as soon as she takes on this role with insane working hours and problems that always seem bigger than the everyday issues of the family. That is until something really happens with her daughter (spoiler) and she takes a break for a while.
3. The political chess game. It's great to see how she spins with her advisor to get her affairs in order and shake off enemies.
4. A solid ten for the styling as Birgitte slowly transforms from a somewhat sloppy woman with a little belly into a sleek pencil skirt with a signature bun. You see a slow outward change that indicates her inner state.
5. The quote that precedes each episode is from a great thinker and is about power.
6. Katrine Fonsmark is also a strong character. She is a journalist, has had a relationship with Birgitte Nyborg's spin doctor, and exposes his painful past.
7. The last season shows a completely different chapter in Birgitte Nyborg's life. I found this perhaps the most beautiful, rawest season.
Netflix is working on streaming this series, so stay tuned. Because I am a Borgen evangelist. You have to see this series. And when Netflix airs it, at least you won't have that hassle with broken DVDs.
