This is how you save 5,000 euros in 1 year
It's terrible. Just when I want to improve my life, my friends only send me the hottest leather pants and summer flirty dresses on sale.
Stop. Please. Because I am weak for -34%, but I really want to save for the first time in my life too. Just because in these corona times having a bit of a buffer is not such a bad idea. Because it is somewhat mature if you have built up a small fortune by the age of 30. Because I have more than enough pants and flared dresses that are bored to death in my closet because I never wear them since I live in leggings and a sweater. So I am not allowed to shop anymore, but I am going to be a good saver. And you are joining me. Because with this easier trick, you too will have saved 5k after a year and that is still nice.
What works if you want to save (a lot) of money is to have a concrete plan. And that plan works well because you get motivated to keep going once you have started. You make saving a game. It works as follows. Every day you set aside money in your savings account. By creating a pattern of transferring an amount every week, you don’t want to break that chain of consecutive weeks. You make it a competition to keep this up, week after week. And then a year later, you have 5000 euros.
The schedule is as follows:
- Week 1: 50 euros
- Week 2: 65 euros
- Week 3: 75 euros
- Week 4: 125 euros
- Week 5: 35 euros
- Week 6: 190 euros
- Week 7: 70 euros
- Week 8: 150 euros
And repeat. In total, after 8 weeks, you will already have 760 euros. After 52 weeks, that’s a nice 4,940. That idea. You don’t save the same amount every week, but you alternate high amounts with low amounts. This way, it seems easier to keep going. Of course, transferring 190 euros in one week is a lot, but the week after it is much less again, making you think, go ahead. Alternate with all amounts and keep it up for 52 weeks: that’s it. Finally, you belong to those grown-up people who do have their lives in order and don’t spend their salary on six collections of Gucci sunglasses or black shirt number 935.
