What you can do when you're done binge-watching Netflix

Home quarantine

Maybe I'm secretly already googling for 1000-piece puzzles, maybe. It could also be that I'm FaceTiming with Jan and everyone else all the time because I miss people, that could also be. Lil almost wanted to wash her curtains, almost. But other than that, I keep my social distance as much as I can, without disturbing my routine too much.

Alexander Klöpping said it again on JINEK: try to maintain a rhythm as much as possible (by the way, here are some tips for working comfortably from home). So I get up at 06:45 sharp, have breakfast with my boyfriend, he goes to work (jealous) and I take a walk in the woods for an hour before I open my laptop. While I work, all sorts of brews and soups are simmering on the stove, which I can stir in for distraction. Around lunchtime, I make egg dishes, stir-fry things, or grill vegetables like it's a joy. A quick visit to the supermarket or florist and then back to work. Shakespeare wrote King Lear while he was in quarantine, so a day of working alone should be doable.

But when the work is done, you've binged Élite 3, and you've bothered everyone on FaceTime, what then? Well, a lot, for example, writing King Lear. Or if you find that a bit too much, here are some less lofty options.

1. Finally finish that damn baseboard
Every normal person has an unfinished task at home. I dare say you have a loose baseboard lying around or a cord that needs a cable duct around it. The hardware store is open and delivers to your unfinished home, so put on those work clothes and get to it.

2. Help someone
Are you fit, can't work for a bit, and have more hours in your day than you can fill? Great, because there are plenty of people who could use help. Start with your elderly neighbors, and once you've dropped a card in their mailbox, sign up with the Red Cross.

3. Learn something
Learn to play guitar, take digital Italian lessons, follow an online masterclass in meditation. Do everything you can to come out of the house smarter in three weeks than when you went in.

4. Cook extensively
Or cook with whatever is still in the supermarket, because I'm starting to feel a little ashamed of the types who keep emptying the shelves. I had the choice of one bag of onions and vegan minced meat, and that became: onion soup. But since you're home anyway, it's the perfect opportunity to stew like it's a joy.

5. Exercise in your living room
I'm taking lessons from The Gym Republic with Kiki (at a distance, of course) from the living room. Sportswear on, curtains closed (because the neighbors don't need to see that) and go. It's good for your mind and your body, and you fill another hour with it.

6. Finally tidy up your wardrobe
I'm afraid we all end up with a neatly folded closet where the clothes hang by color.

Jan or anyone, if you're looking for someone to call: I still have time between my grandparents and colleagues. And are you in home isolation in ’s Graveland? I'd be happy to run an errand for you.
