About that bouquet from Máxima

Willem Alexander and Maxima laughing on the street with a bouquet in her hands

Have you always wondered why Máxima and other queens and princesses always have such a silly bouquet in their hands at official occasions? Isn't that just an unprecedented level of stuffiness and clumsiness? It's incredibly awkward too, because where do you put that thing (the bouquet, I mean, I often find them unattractive) when you're handed a glass of Blanc de Blancs from Ruinart?

In the case of Máxima it's already incredibly awkward because she always wears one glove and thus holds her right glove in her left hand. What are you supposed to do with that?

Well, since corona, I know the answer. Because I now often feel the urge to hug or kiss someone that I actually need a physical barrier. Something that literally stands between me and the other as a subtle reminder of: this is my space, that is yours.

And I think that is exactly the function of that bouquet. To literally delineate the space around the royal a bit. Or do you have another explanation?
