Five-star hotels and dogs

I recently slept (just one night, you know, one night) at Grand Hotel Rimini and saw, much to the delight of my daughters who were feeling ‘hondheimwee’, many guests with dogs. From small to large and everything in between. They were welcome. Just like when I visited my friend M in New York at the Bowery Hotel and saw one dog after another walking in with their owners.
Going on vacation with your dog is possible, even in five-star hotels.

1. Il Salviatino in Florence
This one definitely deserves a spot on your must-visit list because: a fifteenth-century villa, antique bathtubs, a private park, a museum-worthy collection of frescoes, and thus also a bed for your dog and even a dog-sitting service in case you want to visit a museum where they might not be as happy with our four-legged friends.

2. The Mark in New York
Do you remember that amazing hotel where Meghan Markle held her baby shower? That's The Mark and one of the coolest hotels in New York. For a thousand reasons, but also because dogs are super-duper welcome.

3. Argentario Golf Resort and Spa in Porto Ercole
Porto Ercole, you know, the regular hangout of Bernard and Juliana is the place in Tuscany to be if you love the Tuscan hills and also want to be close to the sea. This hotel has a lot to offer and you can bring not just one but even two furry friends into your room.

4. Belmond Reid’s Palace in Funchal, Portugal
Built on a cliff with the most beautiful views. The hotel is part of the Grand Luxury Hotel chain, so it’s all good. The decor also gets a solid 8 if you like classic. Dogs are allowed (one per room is the policy) for 25 dollars per night. But they do get their own bed, unlimited water, and the best dog food imaginable.
Monti, shall we?
