Is having one glass of wine every day better for you than a whole night of binge drinking?

The sun is shining, every day feels like a weekend day and oh well, we have to make something of this quarantine life ourselves, right? Hop, my glass is empty again before I even realize it.
Wine, rosé; I enjoy them all equally in this spring weather. The sun is also a seducer. The sun makes me want to be outside, do fun things, have a good time. A white beer in hand, huh, wow, what a day. Just that relaxation, just that glass of coziness with a chat and a snack in the garden. As if we are in southern France, that idea, but still just a bit different. Just that friend visiting at one and a half meters. Or just relaxing with the man of the house after a day full of kids and closed daycare centers. One glass makes the day a little more colorful. A bit looser. And when I once again started the oh so ordinary Thursday afternoon with a nice glass of white from Provence, I wondered something. Is it actually harmful to drink one glass of wine every day? Is it not better to completely binge one day with three bottles and live on water, ginger shots, and tea for the rest of the week?
Well, you might be surprised. You might as well hang out at the bar very occasionally. Because pouring that glass of wine every day would be worse for your health than going on a bender once in a while. Frequent drinkers have a higher chance of developing an arrhythmia and it also increases the risk of strokes. In a study, more than ten million drinkers participated for eight years. They kept track of how much alcohol they drank in a week and how healthy they were after all those years. People who drank alcohol every day had a 40 percent higher chance of health problems than those who only consumed alcohol twice a week. Drinking every day posed the most risks, and drinking once a week posed the least (of course, after never drinking, which is also an option). According to researchers, the most important thing is that you should also have days in the week when your body can recover and you don't have a hangover, so that you take a few hours, a few days, completely off from drinking.
In other words: I wrote this article and I have since emptied that glass. There is now obedient water with ice in that nice wine glass. Better. And then I'll toast again when it's really only Friday afternoon, right? And oh yes, I wouldn't mind if it rained again, then a cup of tea is just a bit less boring.
