Just Mercy: the film everyone is talking about

Just Mercy movie

Open a random news site and the review has just been posted. Kim & Kanye plan to rent out movie theaters across America and raffle off tickets. The new film year has started off well and Just Mercy – a beautiful drama about racism and the failure of police and the rule of law – is the name that comes up everywhere. Do you want to see this too? Yep. Just Mercy tries to make discrimination and prejudice discussable. And unfortunately, that is still very much needed.

Yes, this is once again a true story that will make your hair stand on end. In Just Mercy, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx tell the story of lawyer Bryan Stevenson. He stood up for a black man who ended up on death row without any evidence for a murder he turned out not to have committed in 1988. He was convicted of the murder of a white female neighbor and has been waiting for years on the electric chair. Despite the fact that lumberjack McMillian (brilliantly played by Jamie Foxx) was home all day at the time of the murder (surrounded by family!), none of his loved ones were heard by the police as witnesses.

It’s never too late for justice, thinks lawyer and human rights activist Bryan. He then does everything he can to get McMillian freed. I don’t know if you have plans for this weekend yet, but I’ll tell you: the cinema is where you want to be.
