Last week we talked about things you better not say to a pregnant woman (read: ‘Wow, that’s definitely going to be twins’-, ’Oh, I don’t think you’re the motherly type at all‘- and: ’Are you going to eat all that by yourself?‘-scenes), I thought it would be fair to list some comments in the right direction for our fellow humans this week. Just as a little tip for the boyfriend, for the best friend with zero pregnancy experience or that colleague who is incredibly pregnant sitting next to you on a daily basis. I say: let’s start with a glow. From ’From the back, you can’t even tell you’re pregnant’ to holding a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream as huge as my face, we’ll keep those hormones in check for now, promise!

4. You’re going to be such a lovely mother.
5. What a beautiful little belly you have.
6. And these are our non-alcoholic cocktails on the menu.
7. Do you want to sit? (in the train, tram or bus) ‘Most definitely and believe me: a very small effort for your non-water-retaining ankles.’
8. If you don’t want to breastfeed, then don’t. ‘Look, we get much more out of that than that unsolicited advice about feeding my child.’
9. After you. ‘Something different than an elbow from behind, ha-ha.’
10. Well, my little workout this morning is nothing compared to your pregnancy workout. Respect!
11. Can I feel your belly? ‘Thanks for asking. Many people could learn something from their unsolicited belly touching.’
12. Are you taking it easy?
13. Shall I cook something healthy for us tonight? ‘Looove.’
14. Did you go to the hairdresser? ‘Oh? Is my hair okay?’
15. You’ve prepared everything so well.
16. I’ll drive tonight. ‘Heeeeerlak, just putting those ‘little legs’ up.’
17. You’re going to rock that delivery, no matter what.
18. Is everything okay with the baby?
19. Can I bring you something from the supermarket? ‘Uhm, little piggies, white Twin, a couple of Ben & Jerry’s and maybe a jar of Nutella? Just kidding. Or well, ha-ha.’
20. Surprise: I booked a massage for you.
21. Breakfast in bed? ‘YAAAAAA.’
22. Shall I paint your toenails? ‘I thought you’d never ask.’
23. Let me lift that for you. You’ve been carrying a watermelon baby around all day.
24. And you’re not holding any extra water, right? ‘YES, but so sweet of you to ask.’
25. You two are going to have such a lovely child together.
26. So, shall we sit in the shade? ‘Really the best idea of the year.’
