Lils Preggo Talk

Belly pain. That has been fully present for the first time this week. And to be honest: it made me quite a bit anxious. I thought for the umpteenth time that something might be wrong with the little one. And what's up with that nosebleed? And OMG, my tailbone. Or what about the rather embarrassing leakage in the bra. Shameless but true: the third trimester is a fact and that can be quite challenging for someone who has had a bit of a rough time. I really need to learn to trust my body. And that is definitely getting better. But sometimes, sometimes the head wants to stick the brain of that body as tightly as possible behind the wallpaper. I hope to spare you a late-night Google session and an increased heart rate this week by sharing my own experiences and the corresponding answers from the midwife with you. Oh, and something about our first Father's and Mother's Day and of course my shopping tips for this week.
Things you don't need to be shocked about.
I say that very boldly. But I was of course shocked, ha-ha.
Belly pain
Are you experiencing sharp abdominal pain? That can really be quite a shock, but the chances are high that it is actually a good growth sign of your uterus, which is attached to your pelvis with ligaments. It can feel really quite uncomfortable and painful, but fortunately, it means nothing bad for your baby. The sharp pain can radiate to your lower back, vajayjay, groin, and abdomen and usually occurs after twenty weeks of pregnancy. Around this time, the uterus suddenly grows at a rapid pace, putting more pressure on your ligaments. What can help? Try to avoid bending and lifting, get enough rest, and use warmth to avoid pain, for example, with a warm (not hot) shower, bath, or dive into bed with a hot water bottle.
Ouch, my tailbone...
Yes, this sounds a bit odd, but when you're pregnant, the muscles and joints around your pelvis loosen. Sometimes this can cause pelvic pain and for other lucky ones among us, tailbone pain. Fortunately harmless, but certainly not less painful. What can you do about it? Pay attention to your sitting posture, try an extra cushion under your buttocks, or go for one of those fun exercise balls.

Nosebleed
Yes, there's not much you can do about it, but fortunately, it can be explained. Your body produces more blood during pregnancy, which puts greater pressure on small blood vessels (like those in your nose). The hormone progesterone (which is released during your pregnancy) also causes your blood vessels to become a bit weaker and thinner, which in some cases means a lot of spontaneous nosebleeds.
Leakage
I didn't see this one coming: leaking breasts in week 28 of my pregnancy, but if it happens to you: it's nothing to worry about. It's actually quite normal for a drop of breast milk to leak from your breasts here and there starting from week 14 (no joke), ha-ha. If you really find it annoying or excessive, there are nursing pads available for your bra. Which I find sounds a lot worse than it is, just Google it. And, it's a nice sign that everything is working well, right?
I guess there will be more ailments coming and going, so we'll just share those cheerfully as a bunch of playground moms together. And if you're still not feeling good about something or suffering from other ailments that don't feel right: call, call, call. Because that's what your midwife is really there for and no question is too crazy.
And then a little about Father's Day, um, Mother's Day, although... It's Father's Day in two days..
I don't know how you all feel, but I find Father's and Mother's Day quite a thing during pregnancy. Because are we really already daddy and mommy? I feel incredibly motherly, but I haven't met my little friend yet at all. Thank god there was first Mother's Day in my case. The boyfriend surprised me with a name necklace (yes, the name is officially our baby boy's, guys, so cute!). I still haven't worn or even tried on the necklace because I only allow myself to do that at the moment of birth. We've decided to make it a special moment, maybe it even needs to go in my flight bag so that I never want to take it off after my first meeting with ‘the child with the name in question‘. A super sweet and quite original gift, which makes me quite panicky about it in two days. So: a final cry for help from me to you: is there anything planned for Father's Day? And if so, what on earth is being bought?
And if we're going to shop so nicely, here are of course my tip tip tips for this week. With my favorite shop stop: Joone Paris with a super nice, organic anti-stretch mark set for a lovely cocooning ritual and a monthly (non-binding) subscription for the coolest diapers that not only look the cutest thanks to their prints, but are also skin-friendly and contain no harmful, scary, or toxic substances for baby bottoms. I totally see that, how about you? Oh, and there are more baby bump-proof clothing videos coming, for which I'm going to give you a little sneak peek with bloody hot weather on the way. Love and see you next week.
