Forget flashmobs, taking dance lessons or learning choreography. That's all in the past and completely unnecessary. All the same dancing we don't do anymore. Why? Well, it turns out that your own dance style is incredibly unique. Just like your fingerprint. Although your dance style can be quite out of sync and when your fingerprint is all over the place, you hardly notice it. The Finnish university in Jyväskylä (health) researched this and then published a scientific article about it in the Journal of New Music Research.

I think it's a great study to participate in, by the way. A group of people was put together in a room and had to dance to different music. Jazz, rock, heavy metal, pop... All genres you can think of. A computer then tried to guess which style of music it was based on the dance moves on the floor. Brilliant plan? Nah, not really. But now 30% the computer actually managed to guess it. A coincidence that the researchers stumbled upon said something with a bit more certainty: in 95% of the cases, the computer did identify the different people based on their dance moves. So yes, how you twerk through the room is completely unique.

So whatever music comes on, you have your own kind of signature when it comes to your moves. Extra annoying if you're blessed with no sense of rhythm. Then you're probably just offbeat with every genre, but hey, at least you're unique. Funny: they can also measure people's mood based on your dance. So yes, what your twerk says about you... Think you can hide that you're not happy at all, your shaking booty says something different. Wow.

Do we really have anything to gain from this info? Maybe not, but it's funny. And also quite recognizable, because in my surroundings I know a number of people who have a very distinctive style when it comes to dancing. One clearly a bit more charming and smoother than the other. And myself? I have a sense of rhythm. I'll leave it at that for now.
