Must visit: Marsala in Sicily

If someone asks me about a warm destination in October without having to go to the other side of the world, I always say Sicily. It can easily creep up to around thirty degrees there while we are already stuck in miserable drizzle here. And when you're on the Italian island, make sure to visit Marsala.

You leave Etna behind and drive all the way to the westernmost point of the island, where you end up in Marsala. Maybe you have heard of the famous sweet Marsala wine, which you definitely want to taste. This is easy in the city, as they not only serve it in a glass at every wine bar, but also use it to make the most delicious dishes and desserts. In ancient times, the city was called Lilybaeum and back then Marsala had an important trading position due to its port.

The sandy beaches of Marsala are also popular, especially the slightly southern Lido Signorini, where according to the locals you really experience the beach as they do. Besides Marsala itself, there is plenty to do; from a boat trip to the Egadi Islands to seeing the salt flats that are still in use.
