Netflix announces first Dutch Original film

With the arrival of streaming services like Netflix and Videoland, I no longer feel ashamed to say that I really think Dutch series are awesome. Penoza had certainly made a start with that, but with series like Undercover and Mocro Maffia, it's completely fine to watch Dutch productions out and proud. So that's what I do. With full dedication, after which you really have to wait a ridiculously long time for that second season... With Undercover, that is. Hallelujah, I was almost losing hope that that second season would even come at all. But good, we finally have a date. September 6. SIX. SEPTEMBER. Is Netflix not getting it done? What are you even busy with?
Well, I believe we just got a bit of an answer to that question. Because behind the scenes, Netflix was apparently very busy with the next Netflix Original, which is entirely ours. Undercover is actually a collaboration with Belgium and other independent parties; the first real Dutch Netflix Original was Ares, and I completely understand that people prefer not to say too much about it. dirtying. Time for a second chance. Time for... The first Netflix Original Dutch film. Wow, quite a mouthful, but also very good news.
There isn't a name for this new Netflix gem (at least I hope it becomes a gem), but there is a storyline. The main character is Richie Rich (a self-chosen nickname, I assume), who is about to break through in the Dutch hip-hop scene. But if you want to become the most famous hip-hop artist in the Netherlands, you also need to have the image, of course. Walk the walk, talk the talk, that kind of stuff. Lots of bling-bling. His greatest pride is a ridiculously expensive watch, which gets stolen from him during a performance when he is attacked by a group of armed teenagers.
Completely sucks, of course, especially when it turns out that this robbery was filmed and then goes completely viral. Not so good for his street credibility. So what follows is an exciting chase game in which he wants to restore his image. And get his watch back.
Honestly, first impression? A bit of a childish plot. But I do have faith that it will be a nice watch. And with some nice Dutch music added. I'm very curious who will play the main roles; I'm betting my money on Mo ‘de Show’ from Mocro Maffia. He previously played the lead role in De Libi, which was made by the same guys who are going to write and direct this film. But I personally vote for Kraantje Pappie. Him in the lead role and it's immediately a top film. But I also have a huge crush on Lil Craney de Kraanster. Okay, I'm noticing it already: I'm definitely going to watch this film.
