Netflix news: this is the new Sex in the City

Valeria Netflix series actors

Yes, ma'am and sirs, I have some very good new tips for you. Spanish series are currently taking over Netflix and I think that's absolutely fine. Of course, it's confronting when Netflix asks you three times in one sitting ‘if you're still watching’. Yes, I am definitely still watching and no, I am absolutely not turning it off. That's a feature of Netflix that, as far as I'm concerned, can go straight into the trash.

And they should, if possible, do it before May 8th. Because then there's a pretty good chance that my new addiction on Netflix will come out, called Valeria. In other words, the Spanish answer to Sex and The City. In other words, the series that can fill that Sex and The City void in my heart. And why do I immediately associate it with Sex and The City? Well, that's actually quite obvious. The series Valeria revolves around four girlfriends, one of whom is Valeria. She is a writer, married, with a crisis. Both her career and her marriage are not exactly going smoothly.

Fortunately, her three best friends are there with whom she can discuss all of this over a lot of wine. So expect many conversations about being single, sex, dating; basically everything you also talk about with your girlfriends. Not really a series to watch with your lover, then (I also know very few men who watch Sex and The City for fun... Exactly zero, I believe).

New York City was of course the setting for Carrie and her girls, but I am also looking forward to this Spanish twist in Valeria. It takes place in a large Spanish city, as far as I can figure out, but which one? That's still not entirely clear to me. But it is definitely glamorous and it's a shame that due to corona we can't experience those Spanish vibes ourselves for now, otherwise this would have absolutely triggered me to plan a trip to Valencia as soon as possible.

But okay, May 8th then. As we are used to from Netflix, the entire season will be available online all at once. So on May 8th, I will be MIA, because I will be lying on the couch all day watching Valeria. But you too, I guess. All of us.
