Netflix tip: comedy series The Duchess

I'm not entirely sure what I think about the next tip myself, but it's definitely a pass. It is quite a unique series, with dry and crude humor that I do enjoy. Those jokes that you don't see coming right away, and it's that unpredictability that makes it funny. Another plus: the first season consists of ‘only’ six episodes, so it's just a nice little snack. And I miss comedy series on Netflix.
So that's why it's today's tip: The Duchess. I'll try to explain the plot, but that's a bit… Well, different. Single mother Katherine struggles quite a bit with her entire life. The relationship with her ex isn't great, especially since he's quite a loser. Luckily, she has a nice boyfriend, but that doesn't go smoothly either. Her daughter is a sweetheart, but things don't go so well on the playground either.
In other words: her life is one big chaos. And that's fun to watch, of course. Luckily, Katherine adds to the chaos herself (because it wasn't chaotic enough yet): she wants another child. A brother or sister for her daughter. And for some reason, she thinks it's a great idea for her two children to have the same father. In other words, that loser of an ex, whom she has to catch in a rare sober moment to propose this. He is quite into substances.
Well, you get it: it's actually one big shitshow but that's also a bit the whole concept of The Duchess. And even though the plot doesn't really make sense, there's so much chaos — I really enjoy watching it. It also helps a lot that Katherine is played by stand-up comedian Katherine Ryan. Those names are no coincidence: The Duchess is loosely based on her life in London.
She wanted to be a fabulous single mom, living in the heart of London and enjoying all the glam. But that's not how it all turned out, and I find this a delightful trainwreck to watch.
