Netflix is coming out with a new comedy series Dead to Me

Okay, we really need to step it up a notch when it comes to Netflix. Luxury problem, but there are now way too many series and movies coming that we still need to watch. Where are we going to find all that time, huh? That long watchlist can now have another added to it. Dead to Me is going to be the new series title and the first season will be available from May 3 on our favorite streaming service.

Dead to Me is described as a dark comedy, so that definitely fits my taste. The main roles are played by Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. The former is of course still known to everyone as Kelly Bundy or from her role in The Sweetest Thing. I've only seen her in roles where she plays sarcastic, cynical types. You guessed it: that's definitely the case in Dead to Me as well. However, I always find that successful, so for now you won't hear me complaining about it.

They play Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) who meet in a support group for grieving. They have both recently lost their loved ones and while Judy is very eager to talk about it (‘This may be weird, but… can I give you a hug?’) Jen absolutely does not (‘No.’). Still, they find some common ground like bottles of wine (relatable) and their friendship goes so far that Judy even moves into Jen's guesthouse. She and her deceased lover apparently hit the jackpot, as it is quite a mansion, as you can see in the trailer.

What the trailer further spoils is that Judy is not just a quirky, grieving woman, but apparently also a criminal? I'm still a bit confused about this, but that's probably exactly the intention. Anyway, the trailer shows that the police come to Judy's house. My suspicion is that the first season will revolve around Judy's criminal past and the trailer does that well: my interest is definitely piqued. I'm also looking forward to a comedy with just-over-the-edge jokes and a lot of that-could-just-work-or-actually-not statements.

Check it out for yourself in the trailer below and make sure to mark May 3 in your calendar. You have more than enough time to be ready for the new season of La Casa de Papel, which comes out on July 19. You’ll need that time too, by the way, because on May 3 the very first Dutch Netflix series is also coming out, which you definitely want to see. Maybe it's an idea to ask for extra days off for these kinds of things soon? A sort of Netflix leave? Can someone pitch this for me? Thank you.
