Part 2 Bird Box is in the making

Oh yes, my horror-loving heart is definitely beating faster. When Bird Box was released at the end of 2018, it was really the talk of the town. Because it was supposed to be so scary and intense that people dared not to finish it. That was one camp, and the other camp found it nothing special and really boring. So quite nuanced, those two sides. But in any case, it was talked about. And watched a lot. And especially that last part is of course quite necessary for Netflix's cash flow and also the reason for what has just been announced: Bird Box 2 is in the makingggg. YES.

Maybe you already knew, but Bird Box is based on a book by Josh Malerman. He also saw the gigantic success of the film and thought: that's nice, there's definitely more to gain here. So that second part is once again coming from his pen. He happy, Netflix happy (saves some screenwriters). The book is now finished, so we already know the title: Malorie. It will be released in America next week, the Dutch translation will take a little longer and will follow later.

The pre-production for Bird Box 2 has already started. Nice, let's put some gas on that lollipop. The creators can already reveal that the story continues where Bird Box ended. That also means we will see Sandra Bullock back in her role (at least, I assume she is open to that second part).

Part 2 will start at the school for the blind, and then makes a time jump of a number of years. Well, a number... Just say a decade. Because then “the action really begins, 10 years later” - if we are to believe writer Malerman. And, he should know, right?

Sounds seriously quite exciting. I thought Bird Box part number one was pretty cool, so bring on that second part. Although I am curious how they will make Sandra Bullock look 10 years older. I hope not with very obviously bad CGI? We will see. A release date is of course not yet known, but I personally guess late 2021. Part 1 turned out to be a great Christmas movie, so it could very well be that they will do the same with part 2.
