6 beauty secrets of the classic Parisienne

Jane Birkin

One of the most beautiful women of the 70s was Jane Birkin, right? Truly my girl crush. My wall is filled with photos from YellowKorner and Jane is unmissable. Brigitte Bardot is also present, by the way. So you could say I have a thing for these French it-girls. The looks of these Parisiennes have never disappeared from the streets and that look is what I want now. You might say: simple, but everything has been thought through. The beauty rules that a Parisienne swears by? I'll go through them with you.

Birkin Bangs
Are you a bangs wearer? Then it's time to cut your own bangs as soon as they get too long. Do you really prefer to have a hairdresser do it? Then ask them not to cut your bangs too neatly, but rather airy and subtly in multiple lengths. That's the secret of this French bang.

Wavy Locks
And I mean especially that wave in your face as if the hair has dried behind your ears. If you naturally have waves, you don't have to do much (lucky you). If your hair doesn't fall that way, you can create it very well with a blow-dry brush, but also with a thicker curling iron. Do you have little time? Then brush your towel-dried hair smooth, let it dry tightly behind your ear, and sleep with a twisted bun in a scrunchie for that extra wave.

Corkscrew Bangs
You can create the small corkscrew curls with a very thin curling iron, but the easiest way is to go old-fashioned with a papillote or special curlers while your hair is still damp. Negin Mirsaheli used socks for her curls, so that works too. Are you already blessed with a beautiful head of curls? Then your go-to is a good leave-in conditioner. Blow-dry your hair with a diffuser for an ultimate frizz-free result.

Au naturel
Wear as little makeup as possible, but make sure to have the right care and nutrition. Don't eat too much sugar and keep low in fat content, that's best for a beautiful skin. Besides, of course, the right facial routine. The French girls also make a lot of use of ampoules: extracts that give your skin that extra caring boost for that natural glow. Then you only need a blush, et voilà: you're done. Brown powders or contouring sticks stay in the cupboard because these are really not done.

Yeux à la Bardot
Mascara is a must, preferably with a thick fuller brush and no comb. Be sure to include the lower lashes for that extra big eye look. The typical Jane and Brigitte Bardot look is a tight line along your lash line or in the crease, which you do with a kohl pencil. Are you going for the second? Then blend it out a bit to create extra depth à la Jane.

Rouge Lips
Deep red, brown, and nude-like shades are perfect. You dab the color on your lips with your finger and a little bit outside. This gives you the most beautiful, sultry result. Make sure your lips are well cared for, preferably no dry skin. Lipstick is really seen as an accessory among the Parisiennes and is the eye-catcher in the face.
