10 unnecessary stupid facts about Paris

1. First of all… a fun fact that I just completely freaked out about: the croissant comes from Switzerland, not from Paris. My life is a lie.

2. Furthermore, I have no idea what you should do with this information, but the Eiffel Tower can shrink by up to 8 centimeters in winter due to the cold.

3. About the city's most popular attraction, did you know that the Eiffel has been repainted 19 times since 1889 and has changed color 4 times? Nowadays it is brown, but shortly after its construction it was still Venetian red and half a century later yellow-brown. Crazy girl.

4. Still fun: The white chef's hat was invented and designed in Paris.

5. By the way, did you know that Parisians have a secret entrance to the Louvre that allows them to bypass that enormous line? You enter through the palace by going past the metro station. Ahaaa.

6. The main clock in the Notre Dame cathedral weighs more than 13 tons and has quite a cozy name: Emmanuel.

7. Nine out of ten French people buy their baguette fresh daily. AND RIGHTLY SO.

8. Oh, and now that we're on the numbers: Disneyland Paris receives no less than 75,000 (!) job applications annually.

9. If you sit on a different terrace in Paris every day of your life, it will take you 29 years to have been to them all. Hiiii 9,057 terraces!

10. Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC and was previously called Lutetia. The inhabitants of Lutetia called themselves ‘Parisii’ and that's why the city eventually got its current name Paris.
