Sorry: the new season of Undercover is a failure

Ferry from Undercover in court

With sincere pain in my heart, I write this, but I have to get it off my chest. I was really looking forward to that second season of Undercover. We had to wait about a year and a half, but we were already teased here and there with a teaser. Understandable of course, but the creators really didn't have to be afraid that we wouldn't all binge Undercover together, you know. Something about what is in the barrel doesn't sour. No, we were all still fans.

But then came the first disappointment: the episodes didn't come online all at once, but one per week. In other words, every Sunday evening we had to be ready. And not just comfortably at half past eight, no... At QUART TO TEN. Sorry people, I'm really not a grandma and I don't go to bed early, but is it just not possible? So we have to wait until a quarter to ten in the evening to watch that new episode. Personally, I find it a very strange time and of course Netflix itself would probably have preferred it differently, but it is what it is, a collaboration with a Belgian TV channel. But no, for the broadcast schedule, they already get from me a failing grade.

But none of that matters if the episodes were just as cool as season number one. And... That's just not the case. Just a warning: if you haven't seen a single episode yet: here come the spoilers.

Look, I think it's quite a bold move for Kim's character to kick the bucket in the very first episode. It can turn out really well, or not at all. Because let's be honest: Kim was not the star of Undercover in season number one. No, that was Ferry and Daniëlle. So if Kim drops out, they can still save the series. Only... WHERE ARE FERRY AND DANIËLLE?

I feel like we've really only seen them for three minutes. What the rest consists of? I honestly can't tell you. The accents are even stranger, so the subtitles are needed more than ever, but I often can't keep my attention on it. It's clear that they thought: okay, season one took place at a campsite, then season two must also have a location. A bit of a lazy thought, but okay.

And then they choose a riding school? Where everyone lives like real cowboys? Call me a shortsighted Amsterdammer, but do these kinds of people and places really exist where they also have these kinds of accents? I can hardly imagine it. And if that's the case, how negligible is the chance that these incomprehensible cowboys have time for illegal arms trade in Syria between line dancing and betting (and buying) horses?

I just really don't understand what those creators were thinking. Ferry and Daniëlle were the hit of the first season, why do we barely see them again? Now we only have Bob and to be honest, I really couldn't care less that his teenage daughter has found out about his real profession. I think all the cowboys talk the same and look alike and I don't care that they have a secret son. I. Want. Ferry. And. Daniëlle.

Thank goodness Ferry is getting his own movie, because that seems really cool to me. But Undercover is not for me.
