The best Paris movies

I am intensely jealous of about half of my surroundings because everyone seems to be in Paris except me. Our designer Lotte is there (for the first time in her life, what a delight that she is going to discover all that beauty and fun, feels a bit like a friend starting your favorite Netflix series) and of course half of the fashion world because of Fashion Week. I am watching it all from the couch this year and to get into the mood, I am making a list of my favorite movies about Paris.

1. Midnight in Paris
I once saw this film during the film festival in Cannes among all the actors and Woody Allen, the director himself. It was preceded by a small performance by Jamie Cullum so you understand that it couldn't possibly go wrong, but what an image of a film this is. And it also takes place in my favorite hotel; Le Bristol. Available on Netflix so just watch it.

2. Un Homme et une Femme
It's on my Summer Guests list. One of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. Made by Claude Lelouch in which Jean-Louis Trintignant plays with Anouk Aimée, one of the most beautiful movie stars France has ever known. The film takes place partly in Paris and partly in Deauville, the ‘outside’ of the Parisians. Watch, cry, and love. You probably need a DVD player for this film....

3. Ratatouille
Although animated, this Pixar film about Remy the rat and Alfredo Linguini brilliantly captures Parisian life. Easy to watch via Disney+.

4. Intouchables
Of course, Intouchables. The story of a rich, disabled man who develops a special relationship with his caregiver who comes from a very different background than he does. And the music, the music. And Paris of course. A lot of, very beautiful Paris.

5. Rendez Vous - Claude Lelouch
Indeed from the same director as Un Homme et une Femme, although this epic lasts only 8 minutes. You see a journey through awakening Paris on a early Sunday morning in the car where Lelouch ends in a romantic entanglement with a smoking woman. When the police later saw the film, Lelouch was arrested because this was of course not allowed at all.
