The latest must-see on Netflix: Spinning Out

Sometimes a series or movie comes online on Netflix that everyone is talking about. ‘Have you seen this-and-that? NO? Omg, you really have to watch it.’ And then I think: huh? They also call me Madame Netflix (or at least, that's what I call myself), why don't I know about this? Where was that announcement? The last time this caught my attention was with When They See Us. Maybe I was living under a rock then — that can happen — but it felt like BAM. Suddenly it was there and everyone was talking about it. Completely understandable because it was a fantastic series. Sometimes word-of-mouth clearly works the best.

So also with this series, Spinning Out, because I hadn't heard anything about it. Suddenly it was there on my Netflix homepage. I was still completely into season 2 of YOU so I didn't pay too much attention to it. And yes, now those same questions are coming again. Whether I've started Spinning Out yet. Well, I can tell you now: yes. Yes indeed, I have started it. And you want to as well. It turns out I'm just as bad as the rest because

OMG, you really have to watch this.

Spinning Out tells the story of Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), who was a great talent in figure skating when she was young. A serious injury forced her to give up that dream, and the situation of her family didn't make it any easier for her. But yes, that dream remains, so when Kat gets the chance to make a comeback in the figure skating scene, she grabs it immediately. A small side note: she has to compete as a pair in competitions.

And her partner in crime becomes Justin Davis (Evan Roderick), a bad boy type. I probably don't need to tell you that that comeback doesn't go without a hitch, in other words: not without some struggles (badum-tss). Moreover, the previously mentioned situation of Kat's family (I won't spoil too much) is far from ideal, which makes Kat feel compelled to keep a secret that could be disastrous for her career.

Spinning Out is really a recommendation in my opinion, even though I have exactly zero point zero with figure skating. It's nice and dark, a bit Black Swan-like (especially in terms of the competitive aspect), a lot of drama and above all addictive.

Ten episodes are waiting for you. Go go go.
