this is already the best movie of the year on netflix

The wonders are not out of the world yet, it turns out again. Brad and Jen are a hot item again (or almost), Jennifer Lopez starred in the movie Hustlers and was widely praised and now Adam Sandler stars in what the internet calls ‘the best movie of the year.’ Or was, because those lucky bastards could already see it; Uncut Gems premiered in December 2019 and January in theaters in America. But thanks to a nice deal with Netflix, it will simply be available outside the US on the streaming service, as a Netflix Original no less. January 31 is the day and I’ll be honest with you: I’m really looking forward to this movie. A striking detail is that there was a considerable Oscar buzz surrounding this film, both for Adam Sandler's acting performances and for the film as a whole. But just like J.Lo, Uncut Gems was completely ignored by the Oscars. Thanks for nothing then.
Now the general public knows Adam Sandler mainly as the actor who makes the worst movies of all time (if someone has the misfortune of seeing Jack & Jill, you know what I mean), but fortunately this is not some bad comedy. I found Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, also both comedy actors, to be at their best when they played a more serious role. I think the same goes for Adam Sandler.
But anyway, on to the story: Sandler plays a jeweler who lives in New York City: Howard. He is quite a gambler, let's just say addicted to gambling, and this gets him into quite a bit of trouble. That addiction has caused Howard to have a significant debt here and there with people you’d rather not owe. He decides to pawn his rings at an auction, which he wants to sabotage to drive up the price and thus get more for them. In other words: a new addiction is born.
And just a warning: don’t, like I did, look up the movie on Wikipedia. Huge spoiler alert, because the entire ending is revealed there. So I’ll keep that spoiler to myself (and send Wikipedia an angry message), but I can tell you: it goes out with a bang. Intense ending, and oh man — I just want to see this movie. Let’s see if those people at the Oscars are indeed blind, as the internet says. Best movie of the year? Just a little longer to decide that.
