Why you want to see Hustlers in theaters today

‘J.Lo deserves an Oscar for this role.’ HOLD UP. When that sentence is sincerely typed, fully meant, you have my attention. Are we talking about the same J.Lo? Miss Jenny from the Block? Part of Bennifer who starred in the fiasco of the century Gigli? The Maid in Manhattan? Yes, really that one? An OSCAR? Okay, whatever you want. The film in question is of course Hustlers, which has been in theaters for about a week now. And okay, you want to see it, Oscar or not. I can't really believe that Oscar yet, but fair is fair: she’s doing well.

The film Hustlers is based on an article from the New York Times, from 2015. A number of strippers decide to con wealthy Wall Street employees and thus significantly multiply their own salaries. J.Lo plays stripper veteran Ramona Vega and helps this group of dancers with the moves and insider tips. Reportedly, Jen trained for six months, six times a week to hang as smoothly as possible on that pole. Side note: I took a few pole dancing lessons on a blue Monday too and really, it’s fun. And holy shit, it’s heavy, but I plan to pick it up again. Who knows, this film might just make it a bit more popular. If you’re in doubt: try a lesson. I can absolutely recommend it (just be prepared for muscle pain and bruises).

As good as Jennifer Lopez, I’m currently only in my dreams. I used to think I could act a little (for references, I’d like to refer back to my group 8 farewell musical), but with reviews like “An overwhelming turn in her career”, “An Oscar nomination for Jennifer Lopez as best actress? You better believe it”, this woman proves that she is not of this earth. Whether it will actually be an Oscar nomination is still to be seen, they will only be announced in January.

I almost forget the most important thing: it’s also just a really fun movie. With Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Julia Stiles, and Constance Wu. Perfect for a girl’s night out with an abundance of popcorn (which always tastes better in the cinema). And I always find Tuesday the perfect evening for that because Tuesday is otherwise just the dullest day of the week. So you know what you have to do.
