This is the most popular emoji during the corona times

When we later tell how the corona crisis was, of course you talk about counting ICU beds, Rutte's speeches, about how you weren't allowed to hug anyone and that the healthcare workers were our heroes (and always will be). But if you're very honest, you also briefly mention the dances you practiced for TikTok (?), that you were allowed a sex buddy from the RIVM (!) and that you got drunk more than once during video calls. Because we were at home, but also very much online. Twitter found it worth researching: which emojis did we actually use the most? Coincidentally, today is World Emoji Day, a nice moment to come up with results.
Enough to laugh
Of course, the laughing emoji remained the most popular in 2020, which gives the citizen a bit of courage, because apparently there was still plenty to laugh about. Although the crying and worried smileys also appeared in the top three, the latter even increased by 415 percent in usage. The fire symbol, which we of course use to indicate entirely different things, is for the first time in the top ten at number seven, which is quite an uplift if you come from place twenty-eight.

Send help
A few more trends, because we naturally want to know how our emoji usage is around corona. Toilet paper grew by 441 percent among users. I can imagine this was under the inspiring phrase ‘send help’. Grocery shopping also kept people busy, as the shopping cart amazed everyone with an increase of 2419 percent. Of course, the symbol for a virus and the smiley with a face mask were also good for the top five among the increases that are corona-related. But the little houses might have been the hit, due to the hashtag: stay home. By the way, here you can see exactly who has a garden and who has to do without; seems worth researching for Twitter as well.
