This is the Netflix series that everyone is talking about

What do you say, need a new binge-watch addiction? I totally get it. This girl here has watched all of Grace and Frankie in a rapid number of days (I’m not ashamed of it) and so I was busy looking for something new. Well, seek and you shall find, because I’ve got another one. Yes yes, it’s called Dare Me and it’s awesome. A kind of combo of Cheer (because: cheerleaders) and You (because: thrilling, unfortunately without Joe). Another similarity with You is that this series is also based on a book, by Megan Abbott. Sounds good, right? Exactly.
The series dates back to 2019 but has only just become available on Netflix, so I’m calling it new. Dare Me is about a group of cheerleaders at the high school Sutton High. No matter how old I get, I will always love high school series and movies. Especially those American ones with the whole cheerleading vibe. Cheerleader leader (cheerleader leader?) Beth and her best friend Addy wave the scepter in the cheer squad, until a new coach arrives and things get quite grim. That coach, Colette, is played by Willa Fitzgerald, who previously had the lead role in the Scream series.
The arrival of Colette puts everything a bit on edge and brings out all the inner mean girls. It’s at times a pretty bizarre series and everything passes by a bit. Drug scandals à la Gossip Girl, murders à la You, that kind of stuff. And also the bruises à la Cheer by the way, those are also hard to miss. It’s at times a bit too much but that’s also quite nice. Over the top American high school things and I found it seriously quite thrilling.
In short, really a great series to binge during your quarantine. Well, not during your whole quarantine. I think I finished it in two days… So quickly another tip. Or a second season of this? No spoilers, but the end of season 1 has several storylines left open and just a big cliffhanger. So that announcement for the second season can’t be long now.
