This is the reason that Ferry and Daniëlle were in Undercover so little

We need to talk about Undercover for a moment. Because as awesome as the first season was (and everyone was very vocal about that), the second season seems to be quite disappointing for almost everyone (and everyone is even more vocal about that). Unfortunately, I really agree with that. I genuinely think that if this second season had been a standalone series, it would have been so much better. A bit of expectation management that has gone wrong at Netflix.
If you haven't seen Undercover completely yet: here come the spoilers, so be warned. Why use Elise Schaap, Frank Lammers, and Anna Drijver so much if they are hardly seen? In fact, why kick Anna Drijver out right in the first episode? Nice for her, having to show up for all the promotional stuff, knowing that your character already kicks the bucket.
And then Elise Schaap and Frank Lammers: they are only seen for a total of five minutes. FIVE. In the entire season 2. Come on, Netflix, you know in advance that we are really not going to accept this? I just can't wrap my head around it. They were the hit of the first season and I know they say ‘you should stop at your peak’, but then just stop completely. Just take Tom Waes and do a spin-off with him. We would have been fine with that and it would have saved you a lot of hassle.
But this is not how we wanted to see it. We wanted the second season of Undercover and we wanted it with Ferry and Daniëlle. Period. It turns out now that we should be happy with those meager five minutes, because the original plan was very different.
Ferry and Daniëlle were originally not in the second season at all. As in: not even five minutes, just NOT. Season 1 was supposed to be a standalone season and the second season would deal with a different case (the arms trade and the cowboys), but due to the popularity of their characters, it was decided to keep them.
Elise Schaap herself says she was ‘happy to be included at all’. And she thinks the second season is great and says that her Belgian colleagues act phenomenally. Well dear Elise, that may all be true and you are right about that, but we were watching for you. And not for those five minutes they gave you #justiceforFerryandDaniëlle.
The only silver lining is that Netflix hopefully learned from this (but I don't think the chance is very big) and especially that there is of course a movie about Ferry coming up. That is going to be really exciting. That can't be disappointing, right?
