This really helps against that winter dip

To get straight to the point: I really don't like winter. Yes, winter sports are fun, snow is cosy and the city looks really nice when it snows, but for me that doesn't outweigh the downsides. Or actually mainly one big downside: the days are so short. I really suck so gigantically at how little daylight we have every day. I wake up: pitch black. Then get to work, finish: pitch black.
I feel tired, not fit, lethargic and just not happy. Every winter. So you could say that I see it coming every year, and I do: I can deal with it a bit by now. But it still disappoints me every year. Fortunately, there is definitely something you can do to make that dip a little less. Some tips you can apply very easily, others take (at least for me) a bit more effort. Away. With. That one. Winter dip.
- Take vitamin D and other vitamins extra (such as Omega 3).
- Go for a walk and preferably early in the morning (though when it is already light).
- If you really don't want to leave your house, make sure you have plenty of daylight. So curtains open, and, for example, wake up to a Philips energy lamp, those things really help.
- Watch your food: lots of sugar is not good for your mood. Lots of vegetables are.
- Keep exercising. I personally find it a real chore when it's so grey outside, but you feel SO much better afterwards.
- Drink St John's wort tea.
- Make sure you take a walk outside a few times during work, even if it is only five minutes.
- Focus on the positive things and write them down every day.
- Do meditation or yoga (nidra).
- Be kind to yourself; buy yourself something nice from time to time or book a nice treatment.
- Tidy house = tidy head = less restlessness. In winter, you are more at home so really make sure this is your happy place.
