Tonight I'm watching The Half Of It and you want to see it too

Let's talk about the weather that's currently going on. Above Amsterdam at least, where yours truly is currently located. Isn't this just terrible? Quarantine à la, but at least let the sun shine so that walking to the Appie is a nice pastime. But no, it's pouring down from the sky. Absolutely great. I almost went swimming to the Appie, but I've stocked up well to have the ultimate Netflix ’n Chill night tonight. But really chill. For me, that means lots of snacks, a blanket, candles, and maybe a glass of wine.

And that whole Netflix ’n Chill night becomes even more chill 2.0 if I already know in advance what I should watch. Because that's often quite a task, to find something in that Netflix offering (and of course always checking what competitor Videoland has to offer). No, tonight I've got it all figured out. It's going to be The Half Of It and I bet you want to watch it this weekend too.

Because I was totally into To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (both parts of course) and also The Perfect Date and ooh, The Kissing Booth. I'm now 30, but clearly still a big fan of high school romcoms. They just remain delightful. And if that's your cup of tea too, then you definitely want to catch The Half Of It. Trust me.

The Half Of It is about Ellie, a shy and quiet student who only gets straight A's. She's good at playing guitar (love it when there's a lot of music in a movie) and suddenly a popular athlete asks her for help. He has a problem: he's in love and he doesn't really know how to handle it all. He's quite bad with texts, so Ellie has to write them for him. And thus a love letter conversation arises, where Ellie pretends to be the cool guy Paul.

But something else develops and those are feelings on Ellie's side: she falls in love with the same girl. Incredibly awkward of course, because does she also like girls? She has fallen in love with Paul, whose inner self is actually Ellie... All very confusing and I can already predict that I'm definitely going to cry at the end, which I always do with all high school romcoms. Will it surpass To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before? Really looking forward to finding out tonight.
