Why that #HonestPhoto of Miljuschka affects us all a bit

Real talk, we love it. And you probably haven't missed it. Miljuschka is done with all those nonsense posts on Instagram. “I get so tired of all those polished images on social. When I scroll through my timeline, I see one filtered and smoothed photo after another. More and more often when I'm somewhere, I see the same old fillers, eyelash extensions, Nike logos as eyebrows, and clothing with big brands on it.” Bam. The nail on the head, Miljus. You say exactly what 90 percent of the Netherlands thinks. Social media would be ten times cooler if we posted real images more often. Just nice in your outfit, just without makeup, not everywhere but randomly in a bikini to get a few likes and stacks of pizza that aren't eaten.

On bad days, it eats at me too. I can suddenly get worked up over something as silly as digital hearts (and the feeling it gives me when those hearts are absent while I thought I had a nice photo). I can also think: damn, everyone is attractive, filtered, constantly traveling, and earning loads of money. Is that the reality? No. Are we all being pushed to go along with the craziness? Yes. Do we find that stupid? Also. Is it therefore good to stand still and realize that social is not reality? PLEASE. Even more fun is to naturally start the counter-movement and alternate your ‘Insta-glam life’ with your real life more often. That #eerlijkefoto that Miljus is asking for. So we can get a bit of normality back while scrolling on social. I couldn’t agree more, Mil. From now on, more honest photos. I'm a fan.
