10 unnecessary ridiculous facts about Disney

disney cinderella

Think back to the past: which movie did you see first in the cinema? For me, it was The Lion King and I was devastated for weeks. Disney is good at making children cry. Not just children, by the way, because I shed a tear during Frozen as well. Therefore: the facts about Disney that you might not have known.

1. To drop a bomb right away: Disney is the largest consumer of explosives in the world after the U.S. government. Not only because a lot goes off in the movies, but also because loads of fireworks go up in the air every night above Disney World.

2. Walt Disney himself was the original voice of Mickey Mouse from 1929 to 1946. After that, Wayne Allwine took over until his death in 2009. Currently, Bret Iwan is the voice of Mickey Mouse.

3. The funny thing is that Wayne Allwine, who voiced Mickey for 63 years, was actually married to Russi Taylor, the voice behind Minnie. It is said that the two fell in love on the set when Russi was recording the movie Totally Minnie.

4. Cinderella didn't lose a glass slipper at all, but a slipper made of squirrel fur. In French, the translation for squirrel fur is ‘vair’, which sounds like ‘verre’ and means glass. A lucky coincidence, because PETA probably wouldn't have appreciated that. Fair enough.

5. Have you ever noticed that there are very few mothers in Disney films? This is probably due to the death of Walt's own mother. In almost all films, the mother is absent or dies.

6. To make the cartoons as accurate as possible, Walt sometimes brought live animals to the set. Quite a menagerie, then. Walt Disney had a huge desire to portray the characters as truthfully as possible down to the last detail on screen.

7. During World War II, Donald Duck (?) promoted condoms. That pants-less duck indeed, what a role model for safe practices. No wonder it took years before everyone started doing it a bit safely.

8. Mickey Mouse actually made quite a splash in comic books. There is even an issue with Goofy where he sells speed. What a little rascal.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides seems to be the most expensive Disney movie ever made, with a breathtaking budget of 378 million dollars. And that while Bambi was made for less than a million.

10. It is said that in Disney parks around the world, human ashes are often scattered. So keep your mouth shut when you go on the roller coaster.
