Astrology is becoming increasingly popular

Wieke looking at her phone

Fluffers gather. We are now with a whole bunch, and that group is only getting bigger. Now I say ‘we’ very nicely, but I don't consider myself a serious fluffer. Maybe a fluffer in the making. I recently got the app The Pattern on my phone, where I filled in my own details and those of my love, because I currently understand nothing about that guy (still very little) and a friend gave this as a tip. Now I don't know if I believe in it, but I find it extremely interesting to read.

And the fact that I have that app on my phone, I can now also admit. Anyway, I think that the whole airy-fairy stuff is not something to be ashamed of at all. On the contrary, I think the group that keeps track of various yoga, meditation classes, or their daily horoscope is getting bigger and bigger. I also think that corona has a lot to do with it.

Okay, this might have been a bit easy for me to say because I have actually read that it is so. Especially astrology shows a significant increase in popularity, according to religious psychologist Annemarie Foppen. ‘It's trendy, and companies are responding to it. But it also fits into a larger perspective: people are looking for meaning more than ever.’

If you ask me (but I'm not a religious psychologist), I think that people have a need for a bit of support in times of corona. That is probably connected to the search for meaning: why is it going the way it is? Is there a reason for it?

According to Foppen, it can also be a form of therapy, for example when you follow your horoscope daily while going through a major change yourself. Now, most horoscopes are written in such a way that everyone can relate to them, but that can also provide support. Again, that support: it motivates you to continue with what you are doing.

Honestly, I think it's a positive development, this revolution of the fluffers. Personally, I have a bit less with astrology, but my yoga mat is almost ready for Sunday morning, you know. And I have them on my phone myself, so I can also do a yoga nidra session myself. I even drew cards with totem animals on them a few times recently, and each time I felt completely that it was spot on. Maybe I can reconsider leaving out that ‘in the making’ in my fluffer-in-the-making title.
