This cheese is number 1 in the world

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the foodies of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat and what to cook. This time our chefs serve you: the number 1 in the World Cheese Awards 2021.
Yes! Recently, after the election in 2020 could not take place due to corona, the award for the best cheese in the world was finally presented during the 33rd edition of World Cheese Awards. And we are always happy about good cheese news, so we love to spread that happiness.
Last time, this honor went to a blue cheese called Rogue River Blue, and that was the first time an American cheese won in this competition. This year, after an exciting judging of more than four thousand (!) cheeses from around the world, a Spanish cheese from a small producer emerged as the winner:
Kiss with your cheese
This little cheese is called Olavidia, made by the charmingly named cheese makers Quesos y Besos (‘Cheeses and Kisses’). It is a soft goat cheese with a distinctive black stripe across the middle that is visible when you cut the cheese open, made from edible olive pit ash. The jury praised the qualities of the cheese as rich, seductive, with a creamy texture and a round, soft flavor.
Small and fine
It is also beautiful that this cheese is made by a very small family business, where only six people work. Owner Silvia Pelaez was honored and said that working hard every day as a small, humble cheese producer pays off. The company, officially called Lacteos Romero Pelaez, is located in the south of Spain in the town of Jaen.
Cheese from Lutjewinkel
This World Cheese Awards, which are held by the organization Guild of Fine Food, are not the only ones of their kind. In Wisconsin, America, for example, there is also a large biennial event that awards a prize for the best cheese in the world, during the World Championship Cheese Contest. Most recently, the Swiss Gruyère from cheesemaker Michael Spycher won. Undoubtedly a delicious cheese, but we especially did a happy dance for number three: a hard cheese from Lutjewinkel!
