Everything we know about Meghan and Harry's daughter

Yesterday, the happy news came out that Meghan and Harry have become parents again: of daughter Lilibeth ‘Lili’ Diana Moundbatten-Windsor, who was born on Friday, June 4. To be precise, Lili was born at 11:40 (local time in California) and weighed just over seven pounds, or about 3.5 kilograms.

The name is a tribute to Harry’s grandmother, the current Queen Elizabeth II. Lilibet is actually her nickname in the family: when she was little, she couldn't pronounce her own name and therefore made it ‘Lilibet’. Ah, sweet. According to insiders, Prince Philip always called his wife that too. In fact, after their wedding, he wrote to his mother-in-law: ‘Lilibet is the only ‘thing’ in this world that is absolutely real to me.’ The second name speaks for itself: Diana is of course Harry's mother, who passed away far too soon.

Buckingham Palace has also responded: Queen Elizabeth is reportedly ‘delighted’ with the arrival of her eleventh great-grandchild. Just for your information: Lili is the eighth in line to the throne, a spot behind her big brother Archie. Harry's brother, William, is still first in line.

‘She is more than we could have ever thought and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from all over the world,’ reads the statement from Meghan and Harry.

Now I must confess that I don't quite understand how all the lines and titles work in the British royal family, and the statement Meghan made with Oprah has confused me even more. There she said that Archie was not a prince, due to a choice by the British royals. I did some online research and found out that both Archie and Lili will indeed receive titles, but only when Queen Elizabeth passes away and Prince Charles takes the throne.

That is because they will then move up a spot in terms of succession. The fact that Harry and Meghan are no longer working as British royals and have given up their titles does not mean that Archie or Lili have no claim to the throne. Although the chance that they will come anywhere near it is of course quite small...

The way the news has come out is of course very different for the British royals than usual. No photoshoot on the steps of the hospital (although that didn't happen with Archie either), no, ‘only’ after 48 hours did they announce the news.

Oh yes, and that name? It was (just like with Archie) not involved in any online betting.
