Forget expensive creams: an aloe vera plant is all you need

Lotte with aloe vera plant
The best thing there is... Honestly, isn't it really a shower after a day at the beach? Okay, okay, I can definitely name other things that are better, but you get what I mean. That feeling is wonderful. Just a layer of aftersun afterwards and your evening can begin. But have you ever checked the packaging of your aftersun? There's a good chance it says it contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is known for its cooling and restorative properties, but why do we actually get this from a bottle? Because you can use it much better fresh: the gel in a package is often heated and filtered through various processes, so you can guess: the gel loses its effectiveness. So get a fresh specimen at home today; it not only looks nice as decoration and is not only handy as aftersun, no, this power plant has much more to offer.

Did you know that...

1. your whole body consists of tiny blood vessels? The tiniest ones are very close to your skin. This is how caffeine patches or other types of patches work: those mini vessels absorb everything. There is just one big problem when these vessels get clogged: the body can no longer absorb the active substances. By applying aloe vera gel from a fresh leaf, the vessels widen by 35 percent, allowing body cells to be better nourished. And we need healthy body cells to live to be a hundred years old.

2. If you are burned, have wounds, bruises, or an inflammation, your skin heals with fresh gel five (!) times faster. Crazy, right?

3. The aloe vera plant contains a cocktail of substances that cannot be chemically replicated AND it is the only plant that naturally contains B12, which is great for the red blood cells needed to transport oxygen through your blood.

4. Not entirely unimportant: it increases the formation of collagen and elastin in your skin, which really decreases day by day after your 25th birthday, so applying is the motto.

5. Do you suffer from stretch marks or striae due to pregnancy, a growth spurt, or strength training? Then the gel helps against the itching if you have that, but it also reduces the white-purple lines you have.

6. Do you have lifeless or stiff hair? Make a hair mask by cutting a fresh leaf in half, removing the spikes, and peeling off the skin. Spoon the gel out of the leaf and liquefy it with a hand blender (it may foam a bit, but that's okay). Massage it into your hair, let it soak in, and voilà, your hair looks healthier. You can keep this cool for a week, so you don't have to use it all at once.

7. Maybe you don't have this problem now, but in winter we all suffer from dry hands. Apply the gel twice a day, which absorbs in no time and your hands feel soft immediately. You can also do this for your feet if you have cracks.

8. You can make a nourishing face mask by doing the same as in number 6, but you don't necessarily have to mix the gel. You can mix the gel with avocado and let it soak into your face for a few minutes.

9. It also works super well as a day and/or night cream if you have an impure or irritated skin, but it also works well for dry and sensitive skin. So leave a fresh leaf in your bathroom and cut off a piece every day, cut it in half and rub it over your skin.

10. Last but not least: drink it. You have many different recipes that you can find on the web: combinations with soy yogurt, oatmeal, banana, lemon, ginger, and so on. You can also eat it, but then it's important to wash it well under the tap; this way you wash off the aloin, because that is laxative and I don't think you want that.

To make it easy for you, I have a good address for you so you can be 100 percent sure that you are purchasing a biological and natural aloe vera leaf or plant. Everything for a healthy and beautiful skin, right? Dr. Green is where you need to be.
