Gigi Hadid, everything about her childbirth
When Gigi was still a little Gigietje, her mother Yolanda already gave her a wise life lesson: always be the prettiest, nicest, hardest working model. If not, there will always be someone prettier, nicer and harder working than you. Gigi has long managed to be the prettiest, the nicest and the hardest working, because even for all the countless gifts she received for the birth of her daughter Khai (which means ‘the chosen one’) she thanked the givers with a personal card.
The child of Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, can it be more beautiful? As life goes, it also went differently than planned here. Her daughter arrived a week late and where she had planned a safe delivery at New York City Hospital, Covid took a different turn.
The delivery rooms were quickly full and moreover, she was not allowed to bring her husband, mother and sister Bella. Decision quickly made: the child would be born at home But then the cats and dog had to leave the house, the midwife said, because otherwise they might scratch the birthing pool that Gigi had ordered.
Zayn asked Gigi what music she wanted to hear during labor and originally Gigi did not choose an artist, but the listening version of a children's book: The Indian in the Cupboard. It turned out to be Zayn's favorite fairy tale as well, so he downloaded the movie and they watched it during the first hours of contractions.
Since it became a – almost Dutch – home birth, there was no epidural to ease the worst pain. Gigi: ‘I knew this would be the most extreme and weirdest pain I would experience in my whole life, but there was a moment when I thought: how would this have been with an epidural?’
The midwife told her that she was already past the point where the epidural would be given and that she just had to push now and oh, if you have a mother like Yolanda and an experienced midwife by your side, then you just do it. So after fourteen hours, the girl Khai was born. Zayn said he felt like the lion in a documentary he had recently seen about a lion whose mate was giving birth and just kept pacing back and forth in front of the den. That's how he felt too. Helpless to do anything for the one you love the most and who is in so much pain.
Gigi has no nanny or anything. She does it herself and if she can't, her mother Yolanda is there who even takes the baby with her when she feeds the horses at Gigi's ranch. For the shoot of Vogue USA (because yes, that's where I got all these beautiful stories from) Gigi had to be separated from her child for the first time and then Yolanda lovingly took care of her granddaughter 24/7. And if you've watched The Real Housewives a bit, you know that there is no more caring woman than Yolanda.
Also nice that Gigi said she didn't have a size zero after her delivery and also felt no pressure to have that. Which was fine by Vogue, of course. But what a beautiful story (there's much more in it, about the houses of Bella and Anwar that are close to Gigi's ranch) about her horseback riding background, oh, you have to read it yourself and just buy that beautiful Vogue because those photos are works of art. And Gigi? She's one out of a million. Khai, you may not know it yet, but you've chosen a wonderful family.
