Gratis Wijnfontein in Italië

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: a fountain in Italy where free red wine flows.
No idea if paradise exists, but if it does: my paradise consists among other things of a lot of wine. In any case, paradise for me is that you never drink the last bottle and are left thirsty (that fear is also reflected in my wine stock at home, by the way). Just imagine: an inexhaustible source full of wine. Isn't that heavenly? Well, let's go then. Massively moving to Ortona, in Italy.
Because there stands the Free Red Wine Fountain and I probably don't need to explain that name to you and no, this is not an April Fool's joke. I dare not make jokes about free wine.
“A special place with a special story”
This is how they describe the fountain itself on their website (yes, the fountain even has its own website). And who are ‘they’ then? The fountain is located on the grounds of Dora Sarchese, an estate where winemakers work. You can get a tour here and taste different wines, but of course, there is also a good chance that you will linger at this fountain.
It indeed has a special story: the fountain is on the route that pilgrims take towards Santiago de Compostela. And yes, during such a long journey, you occasionally need a refreshment... In other words: the fountain. Sounds perfectly logical like this.
This is not the only free wine fountain
How delightful that sounds, it also rolls off the tongue so nicely: free wine fountain. But if you don't feel like going to Italy (does that exist?), you can also head to Spain: there is one to be found in Ronda as well. Well, I know where I'm going when corona allows us to travel a bit again. Could use a drink (or two, three).
