Huh? If you drink tea, you live longer

My morning routine works as follows: I start the day with a few black cups of coffee interspersed with large glasses of water. Did you know that your brain shrinks at night due to dehydration like a sort of raisin? So coffee and a lot of water. Somewhere halfway through the morning, I feel the bounce mode kick in and quickly switch to tea, which I drink for about the rest of the day. Until it comes out of my nose around five o'clock. I'm not talking about cute tea sipping, nope, I drink liters. Herbal tea by the way. What turns out? By drinking that tea, I apparently stay healthy.

How does it work? According to Chinese research among 100,000 people, I am a regular tea drinker. Which is true, because to get this label you must drink tea at least three times a week. Given the amount of liters I clock through my lead pipe on a workday, I drink tea just as it comes: scalding hot or cooled cold, I easily qualify for that label twice. Only it wasn't a competition, which is a shame. What wasn't so shameful according to the research is that tea drinkers had a lower chance of dying or having a stroke. The researchers couldn't completely conclude that tea was the main factor here, because drinking tea is simply part of a healthier lifestyle.

Still, tea in the Netherlands also has the stamp of health, as evidenced by the advice from the Nutrition Center to regularly enjoy a cup. The Health Council even claimed once that daily tea drinking is beneficial in the case of diabetes and the risk of strokes. So even in our own country, they seem to adhere to the theory. Here too, they suspect it is part of a lifestyle. Tea is praised for quite a few healthy substances in the brew, such as flavonoids. This substance is also found in vegetables, fruits, and cocoa. Ha, tea with a chocolate is therefore even healthier.

I actually don't care much about how true it is. I'm just glad that with my liters of tea, I keep those enormous amounts of coffee a bit in balance. Isn't that what the real secret seems to be? It's all about balance.
