I watched the Friends reunion and this is what I thought

Yaaa, I know: it's on SBS6 tomorrow. But could we BE any more excited for the reunion? Of course not, and I really don't want to wait another day for it. So I took the somewhat illegal route and watched it already. Was it worth it? Oh yes, definitely. Were there tears shed? Oh yes, for sure. I won't give away too many spoilers, but I want to give you a little hint about what to expect: I will spill the tea.
What you probably already knew is that it's not a scripted reunion. The actors are just themselves, although there are fragments where they do a table read of different scenes (for example, the one where Monica got stung by a jellyfish and someone had to pee on her to make it better, or when Phoebe found out about the Monica-and-Chandler situation). Striking, or rather: confronting, is that the cast themselves don't remember everything correctly, while I was horrifically fanatically reciting every line in front of the TV. David Schwimmer has really changed zero in his behavior. He can seriously transform into Ross in a millisecond. Bizarre.
But even he doesn't remember the episode where Joey and Ross just tossed a ball back and forth. I mean, that was the first time Joey ever skipped a meal, how can you forget that? The game where the ladies lost their apartment is also played again, by the way, and still literally no one knows what job Chandler has. They do know how many pages Rachel wrote to Ross, but the name of Mister Heckles... no way.
The characters we wanted to see are back: Ross and Monica's parents, Reese Witherspoon as Rachel's sister (although she is not on location) and — love it — Tom Selleck, aka Richard. Fun detail: Joey's hand twin also makes a brief return, who is now a pretty successful actor. His name is Thomas Lennon and he starred alongside Matthew Perry in 17 Again (seriously a fun movie, by the way, with Zac Efron in the lead role). So you see: it's a small world in Hollywood.
What I didn't necessarily find necessary were the celebrities giving their opinions about Friends and the cast. I mean, it's nice that David Beckham thinks of himself as a Monica and is just as big a fan of the series as I am, but a reunion could have been just fine without him. Also without James Corden, by the way, although I thought he did okay this time. In his talk show, he doesn't seem particularly interested in his guests, and I don't find him a very sympathetic guy anyway, so I was a bit skeptical. But okay: he gets a passing grade.
The best part is just seeing the six friends and how they interact with each other. Just talking to each other, without a host or interviewer present. And is it just me or is Friends literally the only show where there were zero rumors about behind-the-scenes conflicts? You can also clearly see that they are really a nice group of six, who were very close to each other. And yes, this is of course where the tears come. An emotional rollercoaster, that reunion.
In terms of looks: yes, they have clearly aged, but I don't know... I am totally here for Matt LeBlanc's dadbod. The whole internet was all over Matthew Perry because he looked so unhealthy, but I thought that was all a bit exaggerated. I did find it striking that Lisa Kudrow looked really great, while she — at least it seems — has had the least visits to the botox doctor.
And, is there singing? Does Smelly Cat make an appearance? Possibly in a duet with Lady Gaga? If this doesn't become a number-one hit, I don't know what will.
Damn guys, I miss Friends so much. I'm about to start a massive binge session and just watch all the seasons again.
Oh, and lastly: do you remember that Phoebe was pregnant with triplets? At that time, she was also really pregnant with a son, who has now graduated. GRADUATED, can you believe it? I feel really old right now.
I’m not crying, you are crying. And I still want to marry Joey, Chandler, or Ross. In that regard, nothing has really changed in the past 25 years.
P.S. Hand up if you also think after seeing the reunion that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer should form a real couple ASAP.
