Just about my DHL delivery person

Delivery person brings a package to a lady at the door

At the beginning of this pandemic time, he was my beacon in the day. I thought this was something mutual, even though he always looked a bit rushed. But still, we had a connection. I saw his white Mercedes van stop from the kitchen table, he dove into his loading flap and then hurried over the path towards my front door. It always went quickly and without fuss. He said ‘package’, I said ‘thank you and goodbye’ and off he went again. But it was still a small highlight.

We have known each other for a year now, but suddenly it feels awkward. It happened from one day to the next. He suddenly looks at me with a certain gaze. That could be because he delivered something every day last week, but that really wasn't my fault. I receive package mail for my work, my boyfriend needed a new pair of jogging pants, and something else for the house came in as well. The annoying thing is that it all didn't come from me, but I now think he thinks that I have a shopping problem.

It has even gotten so bad that I no longer dare to open the door. I just received an email from DHL Parcel that he will be at the door between 10:10 AM and 12:55 PM. SuitSuit had a really good deal, so I ordered a new suitcase (a person can dream). Only now I'm thinking of a strategy to not open the door myself.

IT WORKED. IT WORKED. IT WORKED. My boyfriend accidentally stood by the front door when the bell rang, while I had professionally closed off my hearing with a noise-canceling headphone, so I didn't have to open the door. He couldn't look at me as if I have a problem. What a relief, what a boost. Although I already miss him now, luckily he is coming to pick up a package tomorrow. Something different for a change. But afterwards, I think we still need a bit of distance.
